Zoet, houtig, licht rokerig. Bij spier- en gewrichtspijnen.   In Noord-Amerika kennen de Indianen wintergreen al heel lang als de ‘pijnolie’. Bij pijnen werden de bladeren gekauwd of als thee gedronken. Verwerkt in een basisolie kan deze olie ingezet worden voor soepele spieren en gewrichten. De olie bestaat bijna in zijn geheel uit één bestanddeel: methylsalicylaat. Deze olie wordt veel gebruikt tijdens massages.
